Ministries
Welcome to SPBC's Ministries! Summer is coming to a close. Our students will be returning soon. Families are trying to squeeze in a few more activities before school begins. At Stratford Park, while many of our ministries are taking a break, planning for the new year has not. Most of our ministries will resume in September. Watch for schedule changes, new ministries, and ways to serve the Body here at SPBC. So that you have a better idea of the happenings at the chapel, we have left all our ministries on the website and starred * those that are not meeting at present. Note that topics for the various small groups and Bible studies will be different beginning this fall. For further information or specific contact information on a given ministry, please call the office at 217-356-5341 or contact us through our website. Youth Ministries Kids4Truth If you are a first through sixth grader, SPBC is where you want to be on a Wednesday evening from 6:30–8 p.m. during the school year. Kids4Truth emphasizes biblical truths through Bible memorization, small-group applications, games, and songs. Kids4Truth will begin on September 17. For more information on the program visit the website at www.kids4truth.com. *Jr. / Sr. High Youth Groups Kids in seventh through twelfth grade can head on out to the chapel on Wednesday nights from 6:30–8:30 p.m. through July for a great time of worship, games, Bible application and other activities that help them understand their relationship to Christ and challenge them to work out their faith in their own lives. Bible instruction builds on the morning's Sunday school lesson but enough review is given for those who don't attend the morning service. Women's Ministries Ongoing Ministries *Daytime Missionary Group—This group meets at the Chapel, usually on the second Tuesday morning of each month during the school year. Their main purpose is to help meet some of the personal needs of our 16 women missionaries by praying for them, writing encouraging letters and using funds from their annual garage sale to meet specific requests. Lunch Bunch—This group provides great fellowship and support for women of the chapel through occasional after-church potluck lunches in someone’s home. Any woman, single or married, who would otherwise be dining alone is welcome to attend. Watch the bulletin for information on dates. Bible Studies—We are excited to be offering two terrific Bible Studies on Wednesday mornings (starting at 9:30am) beginning this year. We encourage all women who are free on Wednesday mornings (including college students) to join us for this great time of fellowship and the study of God’s Word. Childcare is provided. –Precept study of I Corinthians –The book of Luke Heart to Heart—This LifeBuilders discipleship program from Campus Crusade for Christ provides women with the opportunity to strengthen their understanding and faith in a one-on-one study. Comfort Meals—This is a ministry that provides meals to those in the chapel who have had a new baby or have an extended illness or surgery. Bridal and Baby Showers—It is a delight for us to share in the joy of a wedding or the birth of a new baby. One way we are able to do this is through the giving of a shower. Showers are an opportunity to show love and support to ladies of the chapel in these joyous times of change. It is a privilege and a delight for ladies in the chapel to host showers for their friends and family members. We encourage family members and friends to demonstrate their love by planning and hosting these showers. If you are interested in throwing a chapel shower, please let a women’s council member know as this will help to coordinate efforts in the event that multiple people or groups are working on a shower for the same woman. Thanks! Craft/Activity Nights—Occasionally ladies from the chapel get together to work on various crafts such as knitting, scrapbooking, card making, and a variety of other activities. Come join us as we fellowship while enjoying our hobbies! See the bulletin for dates. We invite ladies college age and older to join us for the following activities: Fall Kickoff Event—September Deck the Halls Party—December Join us as we get into the Christmas spirit by decorating the Chapel, make a craft to give away and enjoy some food and fellowship as well! Annual Ladies’ Sleepover—Jan It’s time for a slumber party! Join us for a night of fun and games (and maybe even a little sleep). Breakfast will be served on Saturday morning. Progressive Dinner—May This popular event will be scheduled in May...more details to follow! Other Adult Ministries *Small Groups There are a number of small-group studies which we encourage you to take advantage of. These small groups are held in homes (one at the chapel) and afford individuals the opportunity to learn, share, encourage, and lift up one another through Bible or topical studies, prayer, and a time of fellowship. The "club" meets approximately four times over four months, usually for a meal of some kind, though not necessarily "supper." What the group does and when, is up to the participants. Be creative! Adopt-a-College-Student The past few years SPBC has been blessed with an ever-increasing number of college students which, while tremendously exciting, can also make it difficult to get to know them on a more personal level. By "adopting" one or more students, a host or host family can provide a home away from home for some of these young people. How often or what they do together is up to them. It could mean an occasional home-cooked meal, a family outing, a quiet place to study, cookies at exam time, or chicken soup when the flu hits. Whatever they decide, both students and their hosts benefit from sharing their lives, praying for, and encouraging each other. Panera-for-a-Buck A great time of fellowship after church over delicious soup and bread from Panera and our own salads and desserts. Cost is only for a buck (or two) per person or $5 for a family of five or more. Don't miss it! Watch the calender for dates. Faith in Action The goal of Faith in Action is to encourage individuals at Stratford Park to show Christ's love to others through service. We seek to provide a variety of opportunities for the church body to serve those in need through other local community and by standing as a witness for Christ to those that we serve. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
